The time: post-nuke America. The hero: young Don Johnson as Vic, a desert wanderer who shares a psychic connection with his dog, Blood (played by Tiger of The Brady Bunch--no joke!). The movie: A Boy and His Dog (1975), an adaptation of a story by science-fiction super-author Harlan Ellison that still stands as one of the most original, outrageous, and mind-blowing examples of 1970s fantasy filmmaking (and, indeed, that is saying something!). The adventures of Vic and Blood as they traverse an endless wasteland that used to be farms and cities is disrupted when they stumble upon a society that exists literally underground and is dedicated to recreating the look and feel of Eisenhower-era Small Town USA. Elder statesman Jason Robards informs Johnson that they'll need his seed for repopulation purposes. One look at down-home beauties like Susanne Benton, and the former nomad can't wait to settle in to sow his seed. But what happens next is just one surprise of many in this enduring cult classic.
