Ah, 1970s, post flower-power America was just ripe for activism and political statements about Vietnam, Nixon, and pretty much anything that was considered establishment.  Step in ultra wealthy heiress Patty Hearst who was kidnapped and subsequently turned into the poster child for the Symbionese Liberation Army, a radical anti-fascist group who supposedly brainwashed her and her Stockholm syndrome became so severe that she would go off and rob banks with them and what not on the lam.  In 2019's American Woman, we follow a similar storyline albeit names changed, but it's Patty Hearst... Come on...  This story gives us a behind the curtain peek at what may or may not have happened between "Pauline" (Sarah Gadon) and her captors after the incident that left one person dead in a robbery as they hide out in a remote farmhouse talking about their plans of escape and regrouping the army for more counter establishment crime.  In charge of her care is Jenny (Hong Chau), who is basically a re-imagining of Wendy Yoshimura, who Hearst was actually arrested with in real life.  As the duo travel from New York to California, they basically discuss their politics, plans for the future, and what brought them to fighting against the man.  Along the way they buddy up and grow closer, so is this in fact a case of Stockholm syndrome, or was Pauline in on it from the beginning as Jenny soon begins to suspect?  Along the way we get to see Sarah Gadon in all her burned bra glory, sporting pokies in a tank top as well as the ultra sexy Lola Kirke in panties and showing pokies throughout as one of the SLA members!
