Cardi B - a former stripper from the Bronx turned Love and Hip Hop: New York star - got signed by Atlantic Records after dropping two mixtapes, and now she rules the world. Her song "Bodak Yellow" is No. 1 on the Billboard charts right now, making her the first solo female rapper to secure the spot since 1998 and the first ever Dominican to do so. That, and she knocked Taylor Swift from the coveted spot.

Her rise to fame was unexpected; she gained notoriety on Instagram for her hilarious quips during her stripper years, earning her a reality TV offer and a recurring spot on Being Mary Jane. The rest, as they say, is history.
