For every thing in life, there's a line that thing is not willing to cross. After seeing the progressive sexual attitudes of HBO series like GirlsandWestworld—where the nudity is used asactual character developmentrather than for straight titillation—it began to seem like the pay network's line was penetration. That made sense, especially since that's the line for most forms of art using nudity as "artistic" rather stimulating.Well, if Girls series creator Lena Dunham and executive producer Judd Apatow are to be believed, the line for HBO doesn't involve penetration. It involves ejaculate.

In a new oral history of the show published in The Hollywood Reporter, Dunham and Apatow talk about the time they had an idea for a shot—a literal cumshot—and HBO got squeamish...

APATOW: From the beginning, we were aware that what we were doing was sexually provocative, and that’s what made it interesting and new and fun. Lena wanted to reveal something that is normally hidden — so often you’re not talking about a giant part of most people’s lives because people don’t want to portray it on film — and that opened up tons of stories that you’re usually not able to tell. But then we had a scene with a conclusion shot…

DUNHAM: It was actually cum arcing through a shot.

APATOW: And HBO said, “If this is in the show, we could lose our license.” We were like, “Oh my God, we’ve actually found the line at HBO.”

So, now you know where the line is for HBO. Cum flying through the air, bad. Cum pooled between Shiri Appleby's tits, good. Very good indeed.
