Review

Murder is nothing new to Woody Allen. The prolific filmmaker has comedically covered the topic in Love and Death (1975), Manhattan Murder Mystery (1993), Bullets Over Broadway (1994) and Scoop (2006), to name a few. He’s also handled the subject matter with seriousness in the dramatic thrillers Crimes and Misdemeanors (1989), Cassandra’s Dream (2007), Wonder Wheel (2017), and Match Point (2005). For the latter flick, Woody received an Oscar nomination for Best Original Screenplay. Of course, Mr. Skin has a statuette in his pants for the movie’s boobiful star Scarlett Johansson. She plays Nola Rice, a struggling American actress who lives in England. There, she dates the aristocratic Tom Hewett (Matthew Goode). While attending a party at his parents’ estate, Nola encounters the family’s tennis instructor Chris Wilton (Jonathan Rhys Meyers). Although lustful sparks fly, she’s off limits since he’s got his eye on Tom’s rich sis Chloe (Emily Mortimer). But before you can say “that’s a match,” Tom breaks up with Nola right after Chloe and Chris get hitched. As you can guess, Chris and Nola begin to have a heated, secret affair. When the two fool around in her flat, we get to glance at Ms. Johansson’s bra-clad rack! If that’s not titillating enough, the blonde bombshell explodes on screen when she touts her pronounced pokies and heaving cleavage in two other scenes. Once the tryst goes amiss, Allen turns Hitchcockian. Yes, the Woodman proves he’s got a way with suspense while dead-sexy Scarlett proves she’ll give you wood, man.
