Sad news today out of Hollywood that Oscar winning filmmaker Jonathan Demme has passed away from esophageal cancer at the age of 73. Before he was a critically acclaimed, award winning filmmaker, Demme cut his teeth on 70s exploitation films as part of Roger Corman's stable of directors. Before the calendar switched over to the 80s, Demme had such skin flicks as Caged Heat, Crazy Mama, Fighting Mad, and Last Embrace under his belt.
The 80s were an equally fertile decade for Demme as he directed Mary Steenburgen to an Oscar for Melvin and Howard, and gave us the comedy classics Something Wild and Married to the Mob! After his Oscar win for Silence of the Lambs in early 1992, Demme made only two more films with nudity: 1998'sBeloved and 2008's Rachel Getting Married—the latter of which netted Anne Hathaway her first Oscar nomination!
