Sam Malone and Diane Chambers, Ross and Rachel, Spike and Buffy, and now after all these years Xena and Gabrielle will share a kiss on television. At least that is the latest rumor about the upcoming re-boot of Xena: Warrior Princess.
Heading up the re-boot for NBC is Javier Grillo-Marxuach, the guy behind the hit CW show The 100. Recently during a QA session Grillo-Maruaxch hinted that what we all thought was true, that Xena and Gabrielle were more than just friends or as he put it:
i am a very different person with a very different world view than my employer on the 100 – and my work on the 100 was to use my skills to bring that vision to life. xena will be a very different show made for very different reasons. there is no reason to bring back xena if it is not there for the purpose of fully exploring a relationship that could only be shown subtextually in first-run syndication in the 1990s. it will also express my view of the world – which is only further informed by what is happening right now – and is not too difficult to know what that is if you do some digging.
I don’t think Grillo-Maruaxch can make it any clearer than that. So, keep your eyes peeled for the new, slightly sexier version of Xena: Warrior Princess.
